Supports NYC’s growing population of older and disabled adults who have no family or friends to care for them, by advocating for more state resources to train guardians, providing holistic benefits and case management services, and developing legal models that preserve independence for older adults without the need for full guardianship.

Nonprofit Partners: The Center for Anti-Violence Education and Flanbwayan Haitian Literacy Project
Neighborhood: East Flatbush; Flatbush; Prospect Lefferts Gardens
The Anti-Violence Workshops for Youth and Families is a public programming initiative led by the Center for Anti-Violence Education (CAE) and the Flanbwayan Haitian Literacy Project. The initiative provides Haitian youth and their families with workshops and tools focused on safety and violence prevention. Programming includes Empowerment Self-Defense workshops, safety trainings, and violence intervention and prevention sessions, as well as a year-long Peer Educators program that offers opportunities for connection, skill-building, advocacy, healing, access to mental health resources, and professional development.

Nonprofit Partners: Magnolia Tree Earth Center and Liminal
Neighborhoods: Bedford Stuyvesant
The Bed-Stuy University is a collaborative project by Magnolia Tree Earth Center and Liminal that envisions a neighborhood-based platform for skill-building, housing stabilization, and cultural preservation. Responding to rising costs and displacement in Bed-Stuy, the project positions the Magnolia Tree Earth Center as the hub for this community-driven “university.” During this incubation phase, the initiative will engage youth and residents in developing foundational skills in spatial design, construction, real estate literacy, and experiential marketing, while building a network of residents, homeowners, and local businesses.

Nonprofit Partners: MJR Love and PFLAG NYC
Neighborhoods: Brooklyn’s Community School District 13, including Brooklyn Heights, Fort Greene, Clinton Hill, Bedford-Stuyvesant, and surrounding communities
The Teach Fabulous! Family Engagement Initiative will support the mental health and wellbeing of LGBTQ+ families, caregivers, and young people across District 13. Through workshops, caregiver support circles, and the development of culturally responsive resources, the initiative will help address isolation and strengthen support systems for Black and brown LGBTQ+ families. The project builds on existing work in schools to create safer, more inclusive environments for students and families.
Sustains and activates “Brooklyn’s Backyard” through environmental stewardship, restoration, free public programming, and large-scale cultural events that bring Brooklyn communities together.
Supported through our Brooklyn Backs Brooklyn campaign, with matching grant funding to strengthen Brooklyn’s arts and cultural organizations.
Offers therapy groups, legal assistance, English classes, case management, and multilingual peer support alongside community events like Brighton Beach Pride to help LGBTQ+ immigrants and refugees in South Brooklyn navigate services, reduce isolation, and build visibility.
Connects immigrants in Sunset Park to a range of services including health screenings and English classes, providing a welcoming community resource hub.
Offers hands-on wellness workshops that support children’s emotional health and academic growth through creative self-care activities like mask-making, herbal hair care, essential oils, mindfulness exercises, and literacy education.
Partners with artists, youth, writers, and their chosen communities to collaborate on art projects that use abolitionist decision-making frameworks in order to cultivate joy and promote community safety by combining creative expression with career support wraparound support services.
Connects Red Hook youth, young adults, and families to pathways for stability through workforce development, community building programs, afterschool activities, benefits case management, and leadership development opportunities, including pathways into emerging industries.
Supported through our Brooklyn Backs Brooklyn campaign to meet the moment, with a focus on protecting families, and through our Brooklyn Energy Initiative, a partnership with the National Grid Foundation, focused on expanding pathways into energy careers.
Provides pro-bono translation services for displaced people to support them building a strong legal case for asylum, bridging gaps between social services agencies and refugees while creating employment opportunities by also hiring refugees as interpreters.
Provides culturally informed care for Black families through holistic health education, culturally attuned reproductive and mental health support, and traditional healing practices that address gaps in medical systems.
Advances community-led climate solutions through solar projects and hands-on workforce training in construction and environmental systems, creating pathways to careers in the green economy while building local power and reducing energy costs.

Fosters a supportive, compassionate alternative for canners — people who collect empty beverage containers to then redeem for five cents each — to access redemption services that create pathways for their financial, social, and environmental empowerment.
Founded in Brooklyn in 2019, S.T.O.P. protects civil rights by confronting the expansion of discriminatory surveillance technologies, like facial recognition tools, that threaten privacy and deepen racial and religious profiling of overpoliced communities. As a leading advocacy organization and legal services provider, S.T.O.P pairs community-led digital safety trainings with litigation, research, and policy advocacy to equip communities across Brooklyn and beyond with tools to protect their rights and drive systemic change.
Cultivates community with intergenerational gatherings in parks and gardens that invite older adults and neighbors to share mindfulness, poetry, music, and creative arts by celebrating the art of tea together.
Fosters inclusive spaces where children of all ages with special needs explore creative arts while equipping parents with training, advocacy tools, and community support.
Supports families across Brownsville through affordable housing development and early childhood programming, using public data and insights from local residents and businesses to improve the overall quality of life in the neighborhood.
Combats income-based housing discrimination with tenant-led tech tools, direct advocacy, and data analysis that hold landlords accountable and promote the rights of low-income voucher holders.
Promotes community-led sustainability, resiliency, and climate justice through community organizing, education, leadership development, and cultural and artistic expression in Sunset Park.
Builds tenant power in Brownsville and East Brooklyn by organizing residents into tenant associations, supporting eviction defense, and advancing pathways to community homeownership that helps tenants fight displacement, secure repairs, and remain in their homes.
Builds the collective power of migrants and other under-served residents through community leadership and organizing, including working with street vendors — many of whom are immigrant women — to open and run a market in Sunset Park.
Provides free civil legal services and a citywide pro bono network, helping low-income older adults in Brooklyn plan for their medical and financial futures and navigate systems that often exclude them.
Provides therapy, case management, court advocacy, and restorative justice circles as well as everyday needs like groceries, haircuts, and daily-living support in a trusted drop-in space for young men affected by gun violence and incarceration.

Organizes low-wage and immigrant workers across industries including construction, cleaning, food and app delivery services, tobacco processing, and more to advocate for fair wages and safe working conditions through education, leadership development, grassroots outreach, and legislative advocacy that builds a strong labor movement.
Uses fashion, sewing, and entrepreneurship workshops to help youth from underserved communities build confidence and explore careers in fashion, media and design.
Provides young people with marketable hard skills in STEAM like graphic and web design, and access to post-secondary education in order to achieve economic mobility and engage in community revitalization.
Provides advocacy, mentorship, and wraparound support for young people impacted by the carceral system, working in detention facilities and communities to provide reentry support, court advocacy, a youth law library, family coaching, and a mobile outreach bus that brings resources directly to neighborhoods.
Builds pathways for young people to actively shape democracy through peer-led, issue-driven civic engagement led by students and educators. Founded in Brooklyn in 2017, YVote works in high schools across the borough to equip the next generation of civic leaders with real-world organizing and leadership experience through voter registration drives, participatory budgeting campaigns, and school-based civic clubs.
