Champions policies and programs that lift children out of poverty, protect them from abuse and neglect, and ensure their access to healthcare and quality education.
Works towards housing justice and community empowerment through political organizing, youth engagement, and social services, especially for low-income immigrant communities of color.
Fosters a welcoming space for people experiencing food insecurity by serving hot meals at its location on 4th Avenue, and running pantry and breakfast programs. All CHiPS food services maintain a policy of feeding “anyone who comes to our door,” without asking for any form of identification or “proof of need.” They also created and operate the long-standing Frances Residence, which provides fully furnished studio apartments to single, expectant, and new mothers and their young children.
Strives to reduce violence and trauma in Coney Island, from gun-related violence to domestic violence and impacts of COVID-19 through healing programming and community partnerships.
Provides thousands of low-income families passes for unlimited free access to dozens of cultural institutions citywide—museums, history and science centers, zoos, and more—and hosts neighborhood “Culture Clubs,” where families can experience and create art, connecting with educators and artists.
Assists low-income immigrant families, particularly South Asian and Muslim families, through immigration legal services, informative legal clinics, ESL & citizenship classes, and food distribution.
Partners with youth to end dating abuse and domestic violence through preventive education, supportive services, legal advocacy and leadership development, and counseling.
Publishes community-led journalism for and about immigrants across New York City to advocate for immigrant rights through policy change, demands for accountability, and research.
Strives to minimize isolation and loneliness for people who are dying and facing the end of their lives alone by matching them with doulas who provide weekly end-of-life care.
Provides formerly incarcerated young people with four-month paid learning and skills-building fellowships that equip them with the tools to succeed in the food service industry and become leaders in their community.
