Join Museum on Wheels in Flatbush for Brooklyn–Queens Day, a celebration of Caribbean American Heritage Month. Find our mobile museum at this block party centering Caribbean American cultural traditions—as well as local artists, storytellers, and stilt walkers! All ages are also welcome to enjoy Carnival-inspired art-making, performances, music, and tasty giveaways from Island Pops and Brooklyn Tea .
This event is free and open to the public. Space is limited for all art-making activities; first come, first served. All activities are available throughout the afternoon unless otherwise noted.
Celebrate the 15th birthday of the world’s largest participatory art initiative. “Inside Out Project ,” by the artist JR, is an interactive portraiture experience that explores visibility, identity, and collective action. Join the first stop of this global tour spanning New York City, Paris, and Rio de Janeiro as we reflect on community, culture, and belonging. Step inside the photo booth and contribute to a living public artwork spotlighting Flatbush and displayed at the Cortelyou branch of the Brooklyn Public Library.
Experience the joy and excitement of Caribbean Carnival with special performances by JouvayFest Collective . Featuring rhythm sections and steel pan drummers, festive stilt walkers, and traditional J’Ouvert-inspired characters, these performances unite the music, movement, and vibrant cultural traditions that define Carnival across the Caribbean diaspora.
Express yourself by creating vibrant Carnival-inspired masks and headdresses. Experiment with bold colors, patterns, and embellishments. Presented in partnership with West Indian American Day Carnival Association .
Gather for storytime featuring a selection of Carnival-themed children’s books from Brooklyn Public Library.
Enhance your well-being with guided movement sessions, auricular therapy, and healing practices inspired by Caribbean and diasporic traditions. Presented in partnership with Herbalists Without Borders Mobile Healing Clinic.
Explore the materials that artist Christopher Myers used for his new mosaic in the Church Avenue subway station. Learn about the mural’s meaning, process, and connection to Flatbush through conversations with Myers and curator Maggie Murtha. Presented in partnership with MTA Arts & Design .
Connect with local herbalists and apothecaries through hands-on workshops. Delve into plant knowledge, wellness traditions, and herbal practices rooted in cultural exchange and collective care.
Defy gravity in a bounce house, draw with chalk, play giant Jenga, and test your skills at dominoes! Plus, pop by for bubble demonstrations by BubbleMan Stephen Duncan.
