Brooklyn Org Awards More Than $1.5 Million in New Grants Across Brooklyn
Philanthropic powerhouse Brooklyn Org on Wednesday announced more than $1.5 million in multi-year funding for 15 nonprofits across the borough.
The grantees were selected by a committee of Brooklynites and are aimed at challenges and opportunities identified through community engagement efforts. The Spring 2026 class works across a wide range of issue areas.
Community-focused groups included Ifetayo Cultural Arts Academy, which offers Africana-centered arts programming; IMPACCT Brooklyn, which helps build and preserve affordable housing; Naturally Occurring Cultural Districts NY, which helps artists, businesses and neighborhood leaders organize local events; the Urban Homesteading Assistance Board, which helps tenants organize; and the Arthur Ashe Institute for Urban Health, which offers outreach healthcare education and workforce training.
Programs centering youth included the Brooklyn Debate League, which expands access to debate teams for public school students; the Octavia Project, which helps girls of color explore tech, art and writing; Recess, which supports justice-involved youth with arts, leadership and career development programs; the Kings Against Violence Initiative, which focuses on healing, restorative justice and youth leadership; and the Youth Justice Network, which provides support for young people involved with the legal system.
Other awardees included Good Call, a 24/7 legal aid hotline for arrestees; the Resilience Education Training and Innovation Center, which offers solar and green workforce training; the Riders Alliance, which organizes support for public transit; Sakhi for South Asian Survivors, which supports South Asian and Indo-Caribbean survivors of domestic violence; and South Brooklyn Sanctuary, which provides volunteer legal support for immigrants.
