Patch: New Mural Shows Brooklyn Love At Atlantic Terminal Mall

Local nonprofits Brooklyn Org and Groundswell have teamed up to create a 500-square-foot mural on the Atlantic Terminal Mall. The mural was installed on Thursday as part of a community painting day that saw more than 40 volunteers participate.

The mural, titled “Show Brooklyn Some Love,” was designed by Groundswell teaching artist Carlos Mateu and five students to embody the joy and hometown pride that defines everyday life in Brooklyn, with vignettes of stoops, musicians and other classic Brooklyn imagery.

“This mural is a tribute to the vibrant, interconnected fabric of Brooklyn. It’s a celebration of our daily interactions and the cultural richness that makes this borough unique,” Mateu said.

The mural is part of an awareness campaign of the same name to encourage Brooklyn residents to support local initiatives to make life more equitable in the borough.

According to Baruch College Center for Nonprofit Strategy and Management, Brooklyn organizations receive just 7.6 percent of charitable funding despite being home to 30% of the City’s population and 30% of the city’s nonprofits.

“We’re thrilled to collaborate with Groundswell and our community to bring this mural to life,” said Jocelynne Rainey, president and CEO of Brooklyn Org. “It’s a testament to the incredible spirit of Brooklyn and a call to action for residents to support the grassroots organizations making a difference.”
