Brooklyn Org By The Numbers: 2024 Year In Review
2024 was a year of firsts for Brooklyn Org, led by our first awareness campaign’s call to action to “Show Brooklyn Some Love” splashed across billboards, subways, buses, guerilla posters, and street pole banners, inviting everyone to join us and become champions for Brooklyn.
Thanks to your steadfast support, Brooklyn Org distributed $19.5M to nonprofits in 2024 through our Donor Advised Funds and strategic grants—bringing our total to over $130M since 2009!
Our calendar was packed with inaugural programs like Volunteer Day, Nonprofit Conference, and Show Brooklyn Some Love Fest, noteworthy celebrations like our Brooklyn Org Changemakers Ball [featuring the BKO 25] and Brooklyn Org Spark Breakfast, as well as countless community events, from our Listening Tours to our Just Conversations series with the Center for Brooklyn History and painting our very own mural on Atlantic Avenue!
We continued to partner with more Brooklynites to grow support for local nonprofits through our Donor Advised Fund program—with nearly 60% of DAF grants going to NYC nonprofits and 32% to Brooklyn organizations alone!
2024 also marked the first year of our new strategic grantmaking process, expanding our focus to support local nonprofits working across issues and approaches to advance racial justice and help our neighbors thrive. We funded 125 Brooklyn nonprofits—65% of which are BIPOC-led—and partnered with 60 community members to make grant decisions as part of our unique participatory grantmaking approach.
Last year marked the launch of our new Nonprofit Capacity Building program, which has since served over 500 nonprofits through 55 trainings, meetings, and workshops.
And we closed out the year strong with our Brooklyn Gives holiday giving campaign, which raised $1.25 million for 132 local nonprofits from over 3,600 donors!
None of this would be possible without the unmatched generosity, dedication, and leadership of Brooklynites like you. Our community is growing, and we are grateful for it.
