Dr. Rachel Laryea

Dr. Rachel Laryea is a scholar of race and capitalism whose work bridges rigorous research and practical wealth-building. She comes to Brooklyn Org from JPMorganChase, where she served as a wealth management researcher, translating questions of how capital moves and for whom into guidance for the people and institutions who steward it.

Rachel’s work has centered on the relationship between the homeland and the diaspora, and on what economic ownership makes possible for Black communities. She serves as a Senior Advisor to His Royal Majesty the Ga Mantse, King of Accra, Ghana, advising on economic and development priorities that connect Accra to the wider diaspora.

Rachel holds a dual PhD in Black Studies and Sociocultural Anthropology from Yale University, where she studied race and capitalism. She is the author of Black Capitalists: A Blueprint for What Is Possible, published by Penguin Random House under the Crown imprint. Outside of her work, and as the anthropologist she is, she is most often traveling.
