Brooklyn Roasting Co. was started in 2009 by Jim Munson, with one clear goal: to bring New York City the best quality, sustainably-sourced coffee, roasted to perfection and served unpretentiously. Growing from a small roastery to a city-wide brand, their inspiration has always been rooted in the energy and diversity of Brooklyn — bold, creative, and always welcoming.

As the borough’s go-to giving partner, Brooklyn Org shares in that inspiration, and we are proud to collaborate with local businesses including Brooklyn Roasting Co. to spread love across our communities. Learn more about our partnership in the conversation below.

Why partner with Brooklyn Org?

Our partnership with Brooklyn Org came from a shared belief in celebrating and strengthening Brooklyn’s local character. When we had the opportunity to collaborate on a “Brooklyn coffee blend” to support community giving, it felt like a natural extension of who we are — not just as a coffee company, but as Brooklyn neighbors. Brooklyn Org’s mission to bring resources and people together to fuel positive change in the borough aligns beautifully with our own commitment to community and local impact, so choosing to back their work just made sense.

What causes and communities are close to your hearts?

Every corner of Brooklyn matters to us — from the Navy Yard where we roast, to the cafés and markets where our coffee brings people together. We’re especially proud to support initiatives and institutions that uplift local nonprofits and artists, invest in equitable community growth, and celebrate the rich cultural landscape that makes each neighborhood unique. Partnering with groups like Brooklyn Org, BAM, BRIC, the Brooklyn Museum and other community groups allows us to contribute to the whole borough.

What do you love about Brooklyn?

We love Brooklyn’s boundless creativity, its bold characters, and the way every neighborhood tells its own story. It’s a place where innovation and tradition live side-by-side, where community matters, and where diversity isn’t just appreciated — it’s celebrated.

Brooklyn to you in one word?

Colorful. It’s in the people, the coffee, the neighborhoods, and the way we all come together to make this borough something truly special.
