Curtis K. Walton Sankofa Memorial Fund

A man wearing a red jacket and matching cap stands indoors in a room with tiled floors, wall clocks, and various furniture items in the background.

The Curtis K. Walton Sankofa Memorial Fund honors a life defined by resilience, transformation, and quiet generosity. After overcoming addiction, Curtis rebuilt his life through his time at The Doe Fund, first as a program participant, and later as a dedicated employee. His journey reflects the enduring power of second chances and the dignity found in purposeful living.

Rooted in the principle of Sankofa.  A Ghanaian concept of reaching back to reclaim that which is lost in order to move forward. This fund embodies Curtis’s way of life: learning from the past, reclaiming what was lost, and moving forward with intention and pride. He didn’t just start over, he returned to himself, stronger, wiser, and committed to giving back to others,

Through its Ready, Willing & Able initiative, The Doe Fund provides paid transitional job training, housing, workforce development, and comprehensive supportive services, helping nearly 15,000 individuals experiencing homelessness secure employment, housing, or both.

Nearly 15,000 lives changed and counting.

In tribute to his legacy, this fund supports graduates of the same program that helped shape his path forward. In addition to a monetary award, your donation will provide a selected graduate(s) with a curated day of grooming and preparation for the Doe Fund’s annual graduation ceremony, including professional attire and a visit to the barber, ensuring they step into their next chapter with confidence, pride, and presence. Curtis understood that how you show up in the world matters. He carried himself with style, self-respect, and intention and through this fund, that spirit lives on.
