From bullhorns to the ballot box and more, Brooklyn Org has your brief guide to civic engagement in the borough.

Civic engagement can look like:
  • Voting
  • Attending community meetings
  • Volunteering
  • Contacting your elected officials
  • Community organizing
  • Demonstrating
  • Any activity where you are actively involved in your community

3 in 5 Brooklynites Surveyed Rarely Or Never Engage In Non-Voting Civic Activities

Brooklyn Org works with nonprofits that mobilize all Brooklynites to create our borough’s bright future together as a community, through voter registration, organizing for policy reform, and local leadership initiatives. We strive to build a Brooklyn where everyone knows that their voice is heard and change is within reach, alongside our partners.

If you’d like to get more involved in the community but don’t know where to start, join us for our annual Brooklyn Org Volunteer Day on April 26th:

We demand to house everyone, stop gentrification, end homelessness, support tenant rights, and build social housing.

Churches United For Fair Housing

My hope for the borough of Brooklyn is to have everyone working and helping each other. The beauty is when you’re helping one person to stand up on their feet, they’re going to help others.

Brooklyn Org’s support has allowed us to create a relatively new concept in community organizing for criminal justice.

When we combine the legal prowess with empowered people, that’s a winning solution.

For real change to come into effect, leadership has to be created to champion legislation around pressing issues.

The Black Institute

Brooklyn Org has generously supported our civic engagement efforts on the ground in local communities.
