Housing Works Troupe’s newest show questions the role of the individual in institutions of power. How do loopholes in the system or personal bias affect the service you receive? This performance includes two forum scenes: one that highlights the challenges of dealing with landlords and lawyers when faced with housing displacement, and one that addresses the effects of bias that can be held by social service workers.

Brooklyn Org invites you to a screening of The Right to Read, in partnership with Bed Stuy Early Childhood Development Center, READ 718, and Brooklyn Book Bodega. The Right to Read shares the stories of an NAACP activist, a teacher, and two American families who fight to provide our youngest generation with the most foundational indicator of life-long success: the ability to read.

A reception will be held in the theater lobby from 7-7:30pm. NYC’s Deputy Chancellor of Early Childhood Education Dr. Kara Ahmed, Ed.D. will provide welcoming remarks before the screening, and the event will conclude with a conversation between Brooklyn Org’s President & CEO Dr. Jocelynne Rainey, educators, and local parents.
