At Brooklyn Org, we believe that every Brooklynite should have access to affordable and safe housing in the communities they call home. Home is more than a roof — it’s stability, belonging, and the foundation for opportunity. Across our borough, nonprofits are fighting displacement, advancing tenants’ rights, preserving affordability, and reimagining what housing justice looks like when communities lead.

“Brooklyn Backs Brooklyn” is both a call to action and a promise, a commitment to meet the needs that our neighbors tell us matter most across our communities — and through our public polling this year, we heard loud and clear that challenges for Families, Health & Well-Being, and Housing are among the top priorities for Brooklynites today.

The results of our polling highlight the scale and urgency of Brooklyn’s housing crisis — and the shared values driving demand for action.

Nearly half of Brooklynites say the high cost of housing has pushed them to consider leaving the borough. When asked to select their top priorities for city funding, Brooklynites ranked affordable housing programs highest, with 45% naming housing costs as their household’s biggest financial burden.

82% of Brooklynites surveyed agree that affordable housing is one of the most urgent issues facing our city.

Residents also pointed to solutions grounded in community and equity. Forty-seven percent of Brooklynites surveyed support giving community organizations more control over housing developments, and 65% support expanding financial aid for renters who struggle to afford housing.

Brooklynites want a city where economic growth depends on affordability (75%), young people and seniors aren’t priced out (70%), and housing policies serve everyone—not just the wealthy (66%).

When Brooklyn Backs Brooklyn, every neighbor can have a safe, stable place to call home. Every Brooklynite should have access to affordable and safe housing in the communities they call home. Nonprofits across the borough are making that vision real by advancing housing justice, fighting displacement, and building pathways to affordability for all. We are proud to celebrate these champions at our Brooklyn Org Changemakers Ball on October 29 through The Brooklyn Org 25, our annual recognition of the borough’s dedicated nonprofit leaders.
