Improving Black Maternal Health In Brooklyn

Learn about the work of our partners at STEM From Dance
This March for Women’s History Month, Brooklyn Org is spotlighting seven of our nonprofit partners that are reshaping what safety, opportunity, and leadership look like for women and girls across our borough. Their work ensures that women can thrive as leaders, heal from systemic harm, and build stronger communities for all:
STEM From Dance encourages young women and girls to explore careers in STEM fields through programs that combine STEM and technology training with dance routines and other arts performances.
The Women’s Empowerment Coalition of New York City strives to build power and unity among women from diverse backgrounds through education, storytelling, and advocacy programs.
Girls for Gender Equity builds the leadership of Black girls and gender-expansive youth of color through political advocacy and education, giving them the tools to shape culture, policy, programming, and change narratives through community organizing.
Through their civic programming, Muslim Community Network works with women to make city governance and politics more accessible, helping them start civic projects in their own districts and get the backing of elected officials willing to bring their projects to life.
PureLegacee offers opportunities for healing and mentorship for young women who have experienced trauma as a direct result of the criminal justice system, aging out of foster care, and facing homelessness.
Sakhi for South Asian Survivors supports survivors of gender-based violence by providing housing support, food assistance, legal advocacy, mental health counseling, and economic empowerment while advancing systemic change through community outreach and policy advocacy.
Expecting Relief supports mothers, infants, and families in East New York by providing essentials like food, menstrual supplies, and diapers, and workshops to teach parents essential first-aid skills and more.
Brooklyn’s strength comes from its people—especially the women who lead, organize, and push for change. Learn more about how Brooklyn Org is making a difference in the lives of women and girls across our borough by exploring our stories of impact.
