Neighbors in Action
Stories of Impact
Neighbors in Action provides Bedford Stuyvesant and Crown Heights community members with a hub where they can seek resolutions for interpersonal conflict and be connected with resources that promote safety, healing and wellness. Using data to identify individuals at the highest risk of gun violence and in case management, outreach, community mobilization, and public education, Neighbors in Action engages in coalition-building to change community norms and reduce shootings.

As a 2024 Brooklyn Org Spark Prize Winner, Neighbors in Action benefits from a $100,000 ‘no strings attached’ grant for their work to advance racial justice and better the lives of our neighbors across Brooklyn.
“We are grateful to Brooklyn Org for their recognition and support. The Brooklyn Org Spark Prize is an incredible opportunity to expand our work in Crown Heights and Bedford-Stuyvesant, where we work every day to increase safety, economic opportunity, and community well-being, and empower young people as leaders,” said Anthony Rowe, Neighbors in Action’s Program Director. “We plan to use this award to invest in our youth participants’ talents and help them pursue their dreams—entrepreneurship and audio/video production are two of many areas they’ve expressed interest in.”
Neighbors in Action provides a broad range of youth services, and their Violence Interrupters and case workers specifically engage with young people to discuss how racial inequities impact their behavior and help them develop better alternatives. With support from the Brooklyn Org Spark Prize, Rowe shared they “also hope to take [youth participants] on horizon-broadening trips to exchange ideas with young leaders elsewhere and see for themselves a world beyond their neighborhood.”
