The Brooklyn Org 25: Champions For Families Across Brooklyn

“Brooklyn Backs Brooklyn” is both a call to action and a promise, a commitment to meet the needs that our neighbors tell us matter most across our communities — and through our public polling this year, we heard loud and clear that challenges for Families, Health & Well-Being, and Housing are among the top priorities for Brooklynites today.

Families are the heart of Brooklyn, yet too many are being stretched thin by rising housing, food, and healthcare costs. Our polling shows that many Brooklynites want to stay and raise their children here, but nearly half say the high cost of housing has pushed them to consider leaving. Local families also point to food insecurity and the rising price of healthcare as top concerns, and many are facing difficult choices: 28% of New Yorkers surveyed said they or someone they know has had a family member move in to help save money on housing costs, and 32% reported having to move in with family themselves to reduce expenses.

54% of New Yorkers with children under 18 reported that they expect to stay in the city while raising their kids

When Brooklyn Backs Brooklyn, families can build safe, stable lives in the communities they call home. Nonprofits across the borough are making that vision a reality by providing opportunities to access care and resources for local families to stay rooted in Brooklyn. We are proud to celebrate these champions at our Brooklyn Org Changemakers Ball on October 29 through The Brooklyn Org 25, our annual recognition of the borough’s dedicated nonprofit leaders.
