Hello, Fort Greene! A Guide to Brooklyn Org’s New Neighborhood
At Brooklyn Org, we’re excited to announce our move to 80 Hanson Place in Fort Greene, a neighborhood that epitomizes the dynamic spirit of Brooklyn. As we embark on this new chapter, here’s a glimpse into the vibrant, multifaceted community we’re proud to join.
With its charming streets lined with brownstones, lush parks, and a dynamic arts scene, Fort Greene seamlessly blends the old with the new. Named after the fort built during the American Revolution, the neighborhood is home to a wealth of historic landmarks and lies just up the hill from the historic Brooklyn Navy Yard.
Fort Greene Park, designed by Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux, serves as the neighborhood’s centerpiece. The park hosts a Greenmarket, tennis programs, and year-round events, including the iconic Halloween Great PUPkin Dog Costume Contest.
Culture vultures will find a haven here, with the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM), Mark Morris Dance Center, 651 Arts, MoCADA, and the Brooklyn School of Music all within steps of each other.
Another cultural gem is BRIC, which offers programming ranging from visual art exhibitions, performances, multimedia and television production, and community events. And don’t miss the Pratt Institute Sculpture Park’s impressive collection of outdoor sculptures created by students and faculty.
For literary enthusiasts, The Center for Fiction offers engaging author talks, readings, and workshops, celebrating the art of storytelling. And the new Brooklyn Paramount, on the campus of Long Island University, was the first theatre designed for talking pictures and now hosts weekly concerts featuring global talent.
Whether you’re exploring its historic streets, attending a performance, or checking out its many renowned eateries, Fort Greene is a neighborhood that promises to inspire—and we’re proud to call it our new home!
