BK Reader: Brooklyn Org Unveils Campaign to Boost Nonprofit Funding

Published in: BK Reader

Brooklyn Org has launched a new campaign called Brooklyn Backs Brooklyn to address the impact of the federal tax and spend bill, and fill gaps caused by nonprofit funding cuts enacted in 2025.

The initiative, which looks to raise $5 million, aims to increase the organization’s grantmaking to the Brooklyn community by 25% over the next year.

The campaign is in response to federal cuts that have reduced SNAP and Medicaid while expanding immigration enforcement. These changes are expected to leave millions of children and older adults without food assistance and remove health coverage from more than 11 million Americans.

In Brooklyn, the loss of federal support is affecting emergency food providers, organizations working for racial and economic justice, and cultural institutions and parks that rely on grants to operate. Communities are also facing increased immigration enforcement activity.

“Together, we will stand in the gap to support one another and our essential local nonprofits,” the organization said in a statement. “Focusing on our local communities has never been more essential. When national solutions dissipate, local action becomes our most powerful tool for change.”

The campaign encourages all Brooklyn residents to invest in the borough’s future by supporting nonprofits that deliver direct assistance to communities most at risk from these funding cuts.
