Yoga For A Cause: Heatwise x Brooklyn Org

Stories of Brooklyn Giving

Brooklyn Org has done amazing work leveraging the Brooklyn community to make an impact in people’s lives, so it was a natural fit to partner with BKO. Samantha Scupp, Founder/CEO of Heatwise

As the borough’s go-to giving partner, Brooklyn Org is proud to collaborate with local businesses to spread love across our communities. We were thrilled when Samantha Scupp, Founder/CEO of Heatwise — a hot yoga studio with locations in Brooklyn Heights, Park Slope, The Bowery, and the Upper West Side — approached us to dedicate proceeds from special “Flow For A Cause” yoga classes to support our work. We spoke with Samantha about Heatwise, her partnership with Brooklyn Org, and her love for the borough.

What causes and communities are close to your hearts?

At Heatwise, we are proud to support the community in various ways: from donating to educational causes, to helping to support women’s health, and more. Founded by a Brooklyn-based family, we celebrate all things in the borough: from a day on the beach at Jacob Riis Park and a slice at L&B Spumoni Gardens, to a family afternoon in Brooklyn Bridge Park, or walking the graffiti-lined streets of Bushwick.

Why partner with Brooklyn Org?

As a business, our mission is to help others feel good. Part of that comes from our classes and services, but another part comes from the power of the local community. Brooklyn Org has done amazing work leveraging the Brooklyn community to make an impact in people’s lives, so it was a natural fit to partner with BKO.

Tell us about your origin story.

Heatwise was founded in Brooklyn Heights in 2017 and has since added to its footprint in the borough with a location in Park Slope (196 7th Ave), and in Manhattan with studios downtown (Bowery) and uptown (Upper West Side).

Heatwise was created to help offer a healthy way to destress and feel good. Our spaces and classes are designed to create an experience that offers comfort, premium quality, and hopefully some levity to our otherwise stressful urban lives.

How do you back the borough?

New Yorkers across all boroughs live fast-paced, stressful lives and our goal is to make sure you leave feeling better than you did when you came in. At Heatwise, we believe that a happier, less-stressed community is a good foundation for sparking the bigger work needed to improve lives across the borough.

What do you love about Brooklyn?

The people, more than anything, make Brooklyn what it is. We love being a part of the borough in our personal and professional lives, and are excited to continue being a small piece of the larger pie.
