From P.S. 152 To President & CEO: NYC Kids Rise Spotlights Dr. Jocelynne Rainey

This month, NYC Kids RISE brought our President & CEO Dr. Jocelynne Rainey to revisit the same elementary school hallways and classrooms where her own journey began, and reflect on the enrichment, exploration, and encouragement that shaped her early years.

Brooklyn Org first became connected to NYC Kids RISE thanks to Donor Advisors at BKO who were early investors in the Save For College Program, a community-driven wealth-building platform for New York City neighborhoods that starts scholarship accounts for participating elementary school students across the city.

“The opportunity to give back to students in a way that is hugely important to me and my family, is by giving them an expectation.” Dr. Rainey, alumna of P.S. 152 in Flatbush, Brooklyn, shares the ways that both college and community expectations shaped her pathway to a career as President & CEO of Brooklyn Org, where every day she gets to bring Brooklynites together to invest in each other and help Brooklyn neighborhoods thrive.

By leading an NYC Public School Alumni Community Scholarship for the third graders at her elementary school alma mater, Dr. Rainey is passing on expectations of college and career success and showing students that they can go on to careers dedicated to enriching their Brooklyn community, too.
